On October 30, 2024, Health Canada issued a recall of Sifto brand Hy·Grade Salt due to contamination by pieces of metal. This product was for widely distributed in Canada and used in the manufacture of many consumer goods, such as bread and frozen breaded chicken, which resulted in further recalls.
Most recently, on November 21, 2024, three additional consumer products were recalled due to the presence of metal pieces as a result of having used the Sifto brand salt in their manufacturing.
Winkler's brand Breakfast Sausage and Smoked Turkey Thighs
These products have been sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario. The recall, issued by Health Canada, states the products should not be used, sold, served or distributed. More information on the recall can be found here
Baxter Butter
This product has been sold in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec. The recall, issued by Health Canada, states the products should not be used, sold, served or distributed.
The affected salt was used to make this recalled consumer product as well as the institutional/commercial 25 kg size Saputo Salted Butter, which has also been recalled. More information this recall can be found on Health Canada's website here.
